We regularly run first aid courses for outdoor centres,

clubs and commercial organisations.

There is often space on these courses so get in touch to see if we can slot you on to a course. We can also arrange bespoke courses for your club or outdoor centre and get individuals updated for their qualifications.

Due to the Coronavirus Outbreak we have had to cancel all our coaching and leadership courses that were taking place over the coming weeks. We will endeavour to catch up and run as many of these courses as possible when we are permitted to do so. Stay safe everyone.

Location... Torquay. CoSeest - £160 inc £20n cert/registration.

The White Water Kayak Leader award exists for those paddlers who require a Kayak leadership qualification up to a grade 3 level of white water. The requirement is to attend both the training course and assessment to receive the full award.

The TRAINING COURSE is two days in duration and covers topics such as -

Personal paddling performance - breaking in/out, ferry gliding, surfing small waves, paddling in and out of small stoppers, support strokes, rolling and draw stroke on the move.

Rescue skills - involving swimming techniques, throwline rescues, rescuing capsized paddlers and incident management and first aid.

Safety and leadership - application of leadership (CLAP), appropriate leadership strategies and decision making, risk management and group control.

The theoretical elements of the course involve everything from planning, weather predictions, access and water hazards.

The qualification allows you to lead a group of four competent paddlers down a moderate stretch of white water up to grade 3.

Venue - The River Dart, Exe and other westcountry rivers are all possibilities for this course.

The ASSESSMENT COURSE is also two days duration and involves the candidate leading a group successfully down the river whilst meeting all the required criteria introduced from the training course. See Assessor notes for more information.

Participants need to be 18 years of age to attend the course and have all the relevant

pre-requirements as outlined on the BC website - click here
